    Requires Smaller Rivet

Posted by Brian on 8th Mar 2015

I couldn't use the standard rivet I'd used on the rest of the case. I had to find a slightly narrower rivet to make it through the holes. I think it was a 5/32. Anyway, I couldn't find a thinner rivet locally with a 5/8th grip range (If you go to ACE Hardware you'll find there 1/2" - 5/8" rivets are nearly an exact match for the standard rivet here). Nor could I find a washer that fit snugly. I ended up having to counter-sink the back to meet the grip range, but even then the washer wasn't snug enough so the rivet didn't pop. It was a massive headache. Not to mention having to switch drill bits to drill the smaller hole. In short, don't get parts that require different sized rivets. And don't get 1/2" rivets - they just don't have the grip range to accommodate the hardware and the washer. ::::::::::::::::: DIY Road Cases® Response :::::::::::::::::::::::::::: We are sorry that you experienced difficulties. Back in the day, there used to be 3 different size rivet holes in all of the different size hardware. Over time we have modified most of the tooling to 3/16" dia. rivet holes. However, with hundreds of parts in our inventory there are still some random parts that have slipped through the cracks with regard to changing the hole diameters. However, all that you went through wasn't necessary. The solution for this is actually a simple one. Just drill out the holes in the parts to accommodate the 3/16" rivets. It's a very simple process. Simply clamp the part securely in place, and then with a 3/16" drill bit, drill out and enlarge the rivet holes. It only take a few minutes, and then you can use the 3/16" dia. rivets just as with all of your other parts. We mention this in several areas at our online store, but I do realize that it could still be missed by customers.
